The
Internet and Women's Democratic Organizing ~ This
grant, awarded to MATRIX, the African Studies Center, and WID by the State
Department, brought 31 women political activists from West Africa to MSU
over a three-year period. The goal was to facilitate women's social and
political activism and regional networking through intensive training
in Internet technologies. Led by Dr. Lisa Fine, History Department, participants
also attended seminars addressing women's political organizing and activism
and visited Washington, DC, to meet with leaders of national women's organizations
and members of Congress.
Strengthening Local Governance: A Partnership among Ghana, Malawi
and the US ~ In 2002 and 2003, WID and CASID participated
in a training program, funded by the State Department, which identified
16 local government officials from Ghana and Malawi to visit MSU for training
and internships in local government offices.
