Summer in Ghana

Program:
This program, hosted by the University of Ghana - Legon, focuses on history and African experiences, including lectures in religions, literature, linguistics, development issues, and women and the family. Three weeks of in-class academic activities are supervised by lecturers from the host institution and the on-site coordinator. For the final week of the program, students will travel to historic and cultural sites throughout the country, such as Elmina and the Cape Coast Castles, the historic Asante capital of Kumase, the Aburi Botanical Gardens, and traditional textile and carving villages.

Program Offerings:

  • Program Orientation: The first three days of the program are dedicated to an intensive orientation that will enhance the independent movement of the students while at the host institution and in Accra.

  • Housing: Not far from the campus, student rooms are air conditioned with access to direct out-of-country telephone lines.

  • Independent travel opportunities: Students have free weekends to explore the city with some organized sight-seeing included.

  • Courses: Students participate in common learning experiences, but can select six credit hours from the following: 3 credits from International Business; 3 credits from Religion; 6 credits from History; 3 credits in Women's Studies; 3 credits from Geograph; 3 credits in Anthropology; 3 credits in English Literature; 3 credits from Health Science; 3 credits in Political Science; 3 credits from Art History; 3 credits in Theater; 3 credits in Psychology; 6 credit hours in General Education/Liberal Studies; 3 credits in Sociology
